So glad we chose this island instead of the others—for us, we wanted to walk and be outside and enjoy the local pub and live music and all of that was perfect. We didn’t rent bikes but that looked like a fun way to get around the island. Would definitely go back and recommend to friends who want a slow weekend to get away and enjoy peace. Our three teenagers probably would’ve been bored after two nights but for two days and none night they had plenty to do, climbing over the castle, exploring the shipwreck, running down to the tiny beach, walking to the lighthouse, and petting all the friendly donkeys and horses that would stick their heads over the stone walls. We walked about 8 miles in those two days and slept really well.

A beautiful island well worth exploring.

A beautiful island well worth exploring. Everywhere we went we were greeted with a warm reception. Bars and restaurants offered a great variety of food and drink . Very safe island to cycle or walk on do to low volume of cars , therefore an ideal spot for young families . A large well equipped playground and I spotted loads of family pets making the island ideal for anyone who love their furry friends and want them included . The ferry trip is short from Doolin and free car park near the pier . I will revisited again with family and friends and my little doggy . 😋

Can walk anywhere around the island (or hire bikes if that’s easier/faster for yourself). Lovely art display recently added along the walls by the lighthouse. Very creative. Can visit the shipwreck from the opening credits of Father Ted. All locals were friendly and happy to chat. Didn’t have time (or room in my belly) to eat at every food place, but the ones we did get to: Tigh Neds, Inis Oirr Hotel, Tea Rooms (little trailer outside Tigh Ruari’s) and the Crepe trailer by the beach - all the food was delicious!! Definitely take waterproof shoes and rain coat and a few extra pairs of warm socks, even in summer. The rain was on and off when I was there in July. Great family location! Playground with a variety of play equipment for all ages. Lovely Beach with life guards - locals were swimming, wasn’t quite warm enough for me though. Two nights would be better than one!!

A beautiful remote island. Rock walls everywhere. Biking around the island was lovely. See the ruins of St. Gobnait's church. Bike to the shipwreck. Climb to the castle ruins. Enjoy the solitude.
