If you do not have to stay at the lake shores for whatever...
If you do not have to stay at the lake shores for whatever reason, try something different: stay on top of the hills. The necessary drives down to the lake are more than compensated by the fact to live in a less "touristy" area and to have your meals among true locals. Verbiana, Stresa and Arona are within reasonable distance (20 to 45 minutes depending on traffic). Parking was not easy at busy times of the day but always worked out in the end.

A lovely quiet village with spectacular views over Lake...
A lovely quiet village with spectacular views over Lake Maggorie. With a Hotel, a few bars and a really good pizza restaurant; it's a lovely relaxing area ideal for exploring Lake Maggorie region.
