I came specifically for the Colombo-Ella train ride, the mountains and the local culture and food…
The train ride n the mountains was absolutely worth it. And the locals were sweet. However, I was quite disappointed by food. Everywhere you go, there’s fried rice! Fried rice plus this, fried rice plus eggs, fried rice and that… You had to particularly ask for Sri Lankan food or the local curry. I went to a somewhat upmarket restaurant in Ella, ordered a simple vegetable and meat curry. It came out fried rice topped with two fried eggs :(

Improvements - in the restaurant area, coffee and tea making...
Improvements - in the restaurant area, coffee and tea making facilities to be a bit more secure and spacious. To cater more for western tastes as opposed to locals - ie more cereals and yogurts. At time a bit too tight for numbers.
Pay more attention to health and safety around the tea/coffee area. Milk gets very hot, better signs to indicate this.
When floors are being mopped, to use wet floor sign so people are aware.

Colombo is now getting better after a recession few years back. They are on a speedy recovery. There are lots of places you can visit for sightseeing. If you are going on a business trip, Colombo is an ideal space for staying as they have all the good locations (especially importers and huge markets). Better book private hire through a car company, it's way cheaper if you want to explore the city. Walking is also a good option.

Beautiful city with clean and green infrastructure.
Beautiful city with clean and green infrastructure. Recommended for Indians to visit. Shopping was good (Visited - One face mall, City Center mall, Havalock city mall). Galle face location was great to spend some time with family. Independent square, Gangarama Buddhist temple, Lotus tower tourist spots were nice. 2 days is enough to cover Colombo city.
When I visit Colombo I often stay at the more well know hotels there in the city but wanted to try something different this time and was overly impressed. To be honest I have driven past this hotel at least a hundred times in the past and never noticed is to when I arrived for my 2 night stay I was a little hesitant. Was immediately greeted and given the royal treatment. The room was just as impressive as the friendly staff. Will definitely stay here again when I return to Colombo next week. Breakfast was also better than expected
Honestly, everything was fine - the pool area is nice, checkin was fast and easy and the employees were nice - its just a bit too expensive for what was offered. The pictures are all accurate but it was somehow still less luxurious than we expected. We have liked other hotels in Sri Lanka which cost less a lot better.
We didnt book the breakfast and only stayed one night so I cant say much about the surroundings. There is a shop and few restaurants around, but I personally wouldnt stay in Colombo if you dont have to :)
We really enjoyed our stay at Kings hotel for multiple of reasons. The hotel is clean and tidy, and everyone was super helpful and polite. Location is excellent, at night it was quiet and not far from centre. Managers are very friendly and happy to assist and help with any issues. Highly recommend, if you want safe, comfortable, good priced and nice located stay! They do really care about their guests. A huge thanks to everyone who works there. Definitely going to stay there during our next visits to Colombo.
Staff is very helpful and proactive - I had an issue with Wi-Fi and with power outage due to road works and they were very resourceful. Location is very nice too - residential green neighborhood, plenty of nice restaurants around including 2 of the 50 best list. It’s a good choice for 1-2 night stay if you’re not a picky traveller. Longer stay in Colombo is not needed though - head straight to the mountains or south coast!
The hotel/hotel's location is perfect for a two day trip in Colombo. It's very central, located in a quiet street with everything you need around you. The AC worked properly all night and the matress was super comfy. As for the room itself and bathroom, they were very clean. The staff was super helpful and welcoming something I highly appreciate when traveling. I will definitely be back again. Thank you! 🙂
Modern hotel, good size room, comfy bed. Ac, hot water, as expected. Hotel has a generator - which is huge, as hot as it is in Colombo and in light of the ongoing power cuts. There is an electronic kettle and a fridge as well.
The hotel is located within a walking distance of Colombo Fort, but you can also get a tuktuk.
The personnel is very kind and helpful.
It was such a comfortable stay with great facilities. The staff were very friendly and professional. I ordered a chicken Kothu as room service from the Asylum Colombo restaurant located within the hotel and it was one of the best Kothu's I have tried in Sri Lanka. Great rooftop views with a stunning pool. Highly recommend and will visit again! :)
We stayed at Granbell for 1 night and I liked pretty much everything in this hotel. It is a nice, modern hotel in Colombo. The facilities and room was super comfortable and nice, the staff was good and helpful. The location was great as our window has a cool view to the ocean and we could sit down and look at the ocean from 21-th floor.
A pleasant welcome from Upul and in the morning I received a delicious breakfast. The lobby features stylish and classic furniture. The hotel is within walking distance of a nice mall and it is quite easy to take the bus or tuktuk to the center. The owners are very friendly and gave me great tips for Colombo and the rest of Sri Lanka
The location was great; the price was fair; the room was laid out well and had everything that I needed. Really, it was a perfect room for me. I should have stayed there for another night rather than moving to a hotel near the airport for my last night in Colombo.
I loved it here!!!! After walking through the crazy loud streets of Colombo, this hotel felt like a spa. It is so calm in their garden and the yoga class I had at the hotel really was the best. Definitely coming back back before I head to the airport.
very clean and modern! hotel vibe, perfect for first or last night in sri lanka. the best part is the common area with a bathroom downstairs, super convenient when you are waiting for an evening flight after checking out. staff were friendly
The hotel looked and felt like a 4 star hotel with a little old Sri Lanka charm. The highlight was Razik, Razik was a room attendant with a real focus on people, making people happy and getting people what they need.
It's a very new hotel. Everything is spotless. One of the best in Sri Lanka. Ding room has great views. Staff at the front desk and serving breakfast are very professional. Will recommend to everyone.
If you're into history, then this hotel is for you. This is one of the oldest hostels in Sri Lanka; in its heyday, it was the top luxury hotel on the island where numerous famous guests used to stay.
There is no doubt and any questions. Perfect place to stay and has a very professional staff from the word go. All the facilities are standard level and one of the best hotels in Sri Lanka.
I like most everything about this hotel - really comfortable beds, well appointed rooms, great views, the pool and the restaurant. An oasis in the middle of Colombo!
I was 1 Month in Sri Lanka, this is the best Hotel i was in. 8 Floor nice view, great stuff, very good roomservice with Express Laundry and amazing food.
