Rooms were comfy. Probably a little dated but nothing terrible. There's a restaurant next door that had a good burger. The tongariro shuttle picks you up right outside. They actually have a climbing wall! The only grocery store was really close as well.

The views of the Tongariro mountains around National Park are excellent. It is a quiet little village with a good bar. There is no shop so buy your food before you head to National Park. National Park is an excellent base if you are planning to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing walk as you can get a shuttle to and from the walk from here.

Excellent place for hiking and trekking.

Excellent place for hiking and trekking. Place is near by famous mountain area. If require, all the hiking gears can rent from near by shop. As an alternative to Alpine crossing, I recommend Taranaki falls, Lower Tama and Upper Tama lakes trekking.

It’s a great place to visit if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Venture into the outdoors there are so many good walking tracks and of course in the winter when the snow comes skiing as well! Tongariro Crossing Taranaki Track

It's a great base for exploring Tongariro National Park's hiking trails. Most trails are within a 10-minute drive. Keep in mind that the village only has two restaurants. Personally, I recommend the pub next to the mini golf for a good meal.

    Great views of the mountains.

Great views of the mountains. Not many eating options but it is a tiny town/village. Schnapps bar is cozy and decent pub food. Spiral restaurant buffet breakfast was a bit average, a la carte menu looked better but wasn’t available on Sunday

We love that the accommodation is centrally located in National Park village (not that the village is big). Graeme & Lynley also sent us clear instructions how to get into the house all by ourselves, which was really convenient as we travelled after work and reached there quite late in the evening. Everything in the accommodation really makes us feel like "home". There were even kitchen staples that we could use to cook our meals! Love it!

Hosts Karl and Maria were Awesome, Friendly and Helpful. They were able to help us with our special request. Location was perfect, close to restaurants, national park and where we needed to go. The room was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. We will be returning again in the new future. Thank you Karl and Maria for providing first class accommodation. Kind regards Donna, my sister Helene, and our Dad Bill.

We liked the location with its views of Mt Ruapehu, Ngarahoe and Tongariro. Easy parking. Good meal in a pleasant restaurant (though slow service). Room was clean and well lit. Beds comfortable and plenty of power sockets. Couch to watch TV but no desk. Ours was a smaller than normal room. We liked the hotel overall but felt we had not experienced the best they could offer.

The young guy working in the shop/reception area was wonderful - really cheerful, positive and welcoming to everyone. My bedroom, the kitchen and lounge were all comfortable and kept nice and clean. There's a smart TV with Netflix etc in the lounge, and multiple sources of heat to keep you cosy in this very cold village. Only a 5 minute walk from the train station/bus stop.

Great location for those doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, as the shuttle will pick you up in front of the hotel. Comfy beds, though the twin room did feel a bit cramped. Solid buffet breakfast and nice restaurant. The hot tub was amazing for a post hike soak. Highly recommended! Also, check their website for a special package for visitors doing the crossing!

Basic accommodation but worked for us. I had read comment about soft beds and noise, but our beds were very comfortable and we had a good sleep before and after doing the Tongariro crossing. the building could be noisy—it’s an old traditional lodge, but we were perhaps lucky with the other guests and did not have any noise issues.

Friendly down to earth hosts and a great location right in the heart of Tongariro National Park. Very comfortable and practical accommodation with good cooking facilities for self-catering. Rooms were clean and comfortable and there is convenient off-street parking. Shops, bar and cafe close by in the village if you need these.

We booked the accommodation in order to hike the Tongariro Crossing as easily as possible and were not disappointed. The shuttle runs not far from the accommodation, making it easy to get an early start to the day. The accommodation contains everything you need to self-cater, plus a very spacious shower!

We had a wonderful stay at the Tongariro crossing lodge, even though the weather was a little rainy and moody. Having a pleasant environment with a lot of walks around and suggestions from the staff was really helpful. we can confirm as per everyone’s reviews that the breakfast is really nice as well.

Great little lodge. Handy to National park, and very warm and cosy setting. Wasn’t expecting much for the really cheap rate, but it was really nice, and a perfect place to rest up after a full day exploring the walks around Tongariro national park

Great location for Tongariro. Room was not large, but was comfortable and well equipped. Liked the common area outside for guests to mingle. When we visited they had a Grillhaus food truck parked all day in the parking lot, which was awesome.
